The men insisted on feeding her breakfast before they took her home, and they all got sidetracked for a little while in the shower, so it was actually five minutes after seven before Tenealle slid into her office chair and logged into the chat room.

At ten she logged out and checked her e-mail. The first one she opened was from Cousin Herb, reminding her about the party for Emma on Saturday. He also hinted that he expected her to bring two guests.

The men had been present when Herb had talked about Emma’s party, but she had no idea if they’d been aware of what the conversation was about, so she jotted down a note to invite them, and a second note to herself to check if she was supposed to bring some food or drinks for the cookout.

Then she dived into dealing with her work e-mails. She loved her job, loved the actual work, the feeling of matching pieces of a puzzle together, loved the freedom it gave her, but she really needed to concentrate on making some money.

She’d also been e-mailing backward and forward with Jodie about the garden. Jodie had some detailed plans that looked really good. Tenealle was excited by the idea that the garden would look truly beautiful again, and Jodie didn’t think achieving this would be expensive.

Then there were her plans to renovate the Domain. Nothing structural needed fixing, just paint for the walls, new drapes for the windows, minor carpentry, and basic upkeep, then finally new floor coverings, possibly mostly tiles and rugs. This could be the one time that having a bazillion cousins is actually helpful, she thought before deliberately putting the Domain aside to concentrate on the work that would pay the bills for it.
